In-house tools that remove drawing risk

Some of the documents most relied on at site — single line diagrams, interconnection details, lighting layouts and cable tray sections — are also the easiest to get wrong by hand. We built our own tools, powered by MS Excel and AutoCAD, to generate them directly from structured input data.

In-house tool / 01

LV SLD Generator

Produces Low Voltage Single Line Diagrams straight from equipment and load data, cutting manual drafting and redrafting on revisions.

  • Excel-driven input — load and equipment data entered as a structured spreadsheet
  • Automatic LV SLD generation — diagram produced directly from that data, ready for review

In-house tool / 02

Equipment & JB-wise Interconnection Generator

Produces interconnection and termination details directly from input data — grouped equipment-wise or JB-wise, and delivered in whichever format the site team needs.

  • Excel-driven input — equipment and cable data entered as a structured spreadsheet
  • Flexible grouping — output generated equipment-wise or JB-wise (by junction box)
  • Dual output — interconnection details delivered in Excel or pictorial form
In-house tool / 03

Cable Tray Cross Section Generator

Produces cable tray cross-section layouts directly from cable schedule data, sizing and arranging trays for fill and clearance in one step.

  • Excel-driven input — cable schedule and tray data entered as a structured spreadsheet
  • Automatic cross-section generation — tray layout produced directly from that data, ready for review

Lighting SLD Generator

Produces lighting layout single line diagrams directly from fixture and circuit data, keeping lighting design consistent with the rest of the electrical package.

  • Excel-driven input — fixture and circuit data entered as a structured spreadsheet
  • Automatic lighting SLD generation — diagram produced directly from that data, ready for review

Generation of Cable Route

Finds the shortest cable/route path between any two points on site, computed using in-house Python code from a simple From/To/Section name/Distance table.

  • Python-based tool — route segments entered as a From/To/Section name/Distance table
  • Route generation — generates the route number considering the shortest length
  • Reusable across projects — built as a configurable engine, not hardcoded, so it adapts as Section name and sheet details change project to project
  • Works from any section name — generates the Section Name automatically regardless of how the node/point data is described

In-house tool / 06

Cable Tray Sizing

Auto-assigns the right tray size and type for every route section, computed from the Section name and each cable’s OD, driven by a single configurable Settings sheet.

  • Section name and Cable OD driven — takes the Section name and cable OD as inputs to size and select the tray for each section
  • Configurable Settings sheet — tray size, type (Ladder/Perforated) and margin all set from one place instead of hardcoded
  • Margin built in — calculated OD includes a configurable margin, so tray fill stays within a safe, practical limit

The advantage

Detail design of cable engineering typically demands heavy man-hours — and the bill of material that comes out of that effort often carries real unpredictability, ending in excess or shortage. Our automated spreadsheets take a holistic approach to keep the bulk quantity within a reasonable margin, while still leaving room to accommodate design changes. Outputs update instantly, so deliverables stay accurate and on time — keeping project cost within budget.
